Each week, 7 Gates Sanctuary hosts a virtual open house/Q+A for people who are curious about using psilocybin (aka: “magic mushrooms“) to support their mental health, creativity, consciousness exploration and more.
Here are the top 3 questions we get asked about accessing legal psilocybin therapy in Oregon:
1. Why Can’t I Just Buy Mushrooms Online and Use Them at Home?
Psilocybin mushrooms are becoming increasingly popular, but with their rise in demand, we’ve also seen a surge in reports of sickness and even deaths due to careless, illegal and unregulated manufacturing. Oregon’s legal psilocybin framework ensures that you receive only safe, rigorously tested psilocybin products from licensed manufacturers.
While taking psilocybin in a natural setting might sound appealing, many people find that the benefits of a structured, supportive environment far outweigh those of self-administration. If your psilocybin journey brings up intense emotions, unresolved grief, or trauma, having a trauma-informed, licensed facilitator with decades of experience can provide a much-needed safety net.
Choosing a professional, guided setting allows for a deeper, more meaningful experience, fostering healing that might be more difficult to achieve on your own. 7 Gates Sanctuary has a highly qualified, well-rounded team of facilitators with wide-reaching mental health/healthcare backgrounds, and safety and well-being are our primary goals.
2. Is Psilocybin Therapy Expensive? Do You Offer Payment Plans or Financial Assistance?
The cost of individual legal psilocybin journeys in Oregon ranges from $600 – $3200+ depending on facilitator, dosage, and sliding scale and/or scholarship pricing. Calculating the cost is a part of the journey planning process we can help you with! Book a call with our team to learn more.
We understand that the cost of psilocybin therapy can be a barrier for many. Here are some options on how to fund your psilocybin journey:
> Consider applying to the Sheri Ekert Foundation’s Psilocybin Access Fund (PAF).
This fund aims to cover facilitation costs for individuals in need of deep healing who may face financial hardship, with a particular focus on supporting diverse communities.
The Sheri Ekert Foundation believes in providing direct grants to those who could benefit from psilocybin therapy but might not otherwise have access to it. Applications are open now – apply here!
> SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR A 7 GATES FINANCIAL HARDSHIP SCHOLARSHIP JOURNEY
For those facing financial hardship, we offer a reduced rate of $600 for a full-day journey (originally $1,200–$3,200). This includes room, facilitator, and handling costs. The scholarship is available to anyone who legally and medically qualifies for psilocybin therapy and is experiencing financial hardship. > FUND $500 IN TRADE COMMERCE
7 Gates Sanctuary believes in the power of trade and commerce as a collaborative way to support each other’s needs though directly partnering with each other. We offer a partial trade opportunity valued at $500 for certain types of skills and offerings, allowing you to lower the cost of room rental for your therapy session. Read more about our trade scholarship program here.
> PAY OVER TIME WITH A PAYMENT PLAN
7 Gates Sanctuary offers payment plans to make your journey more affordable, so you can start your healing process at a time that works for you. We require the full amount of the journey be paid in full before the day of the journey, and can spread payments over whatever period works best for you.
3. What is Neuroplasticity, and How Does Psilocybin Support It?
Think of your brain as a dense forest filled with many trails. Neuroplasticity is your brain’s capacity to create new paths or enhance existing ones. Psilocybin, a compound found in certain mushrooms, acts like a “trail guide,” helping to forge new connections and strengthen old ones.
When you take psilocybin, your brain becomes more flexible, opening a unique window of enhanced neuroplasticity that lasts about 3-4 weeks. During this period, your brain is more adept at learning new things, making new connections, and growing in ways that it might not under ordinary circumstances. This potential for change makes psilocybin therapy a promising option for individuals recovering from trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions.
